Scrimmage: MSD v. St. Andrew's 6-20

The most physically tough game to date, and our guys were up to the task. Even after these young men would get hurt, they would get right back in the game as soon as they could.

Our first taste of a win. The team is excited, and now know what it feels like to put the ball in the end zone. They're proud of themselves, as they should be. They played as a team, and played to win.

Sorry parents, no photos from the scrimmage. I wanted to be able to fully enjoy a game!

Christ Covenant v. St. Andrew's 22-0

Tough game. From Coach Hardwick: "We continue to show improvement in all phases of the game." I could see that yesterday. The guys played with more discipline, and with their heads more in the game than I've seen so far.

"Even in a tough loss the guys showed flashes of being oh so close to putting it all together," says Hardwick. "As coaches it is our job to make sure they bounce back and continue to work hard and smart." I didn't see many cowed heads yesterday after the game. These young men will continue to work and play hard. Winning is easy. It's the bouncing back after losing that's hard and measure of character and endurance.

I think these guys will bounce back just fine.

Injury Report

From April Gray:

Lofton hurt his foot in practice last week and we think it might be a stress fracture. He is getting around much better and seems fine at times but if he steps wrong he is still having some pain. This is why he has missed the last couple of practices. He will be at the game today dressed out to support the team but I wanted to let you know what was going on.

Scott Kennedy let me know that he has a check up on Thursday, and hopes he will be released to play in Monday's game.

We're pulling for you guys!

Injury Report

Cole Maloney will be out for the rest of the season following hernia surgery.

Scott Kennedy had an appendectomy on Sunday and even though I haven't heard from Warren and Leslie, I wouldn't expect him to return this season.

Noah Green injured his knee in the Canton Academy game last Thursday, and while he didn't play against First Pres on Monday, he hopes to be able to rejoin the squad in time for next week's game against Christ Covenant on 9/30.

All of you have made valuable contributions to this team, and we hope you make speedy recoveries. We're pulling for you guys!

Please let me know of any clarifications or updates on these fine young men.

First Pres White v. St. Andrew's, 28-6

It was a disappointing game Monday, but there were moments where these young men were getting it. Coach Hardwick says, "We are getting better and are close to breaking through."

"Our boys played hard and were for the most part in good position, but we didn't finish the plays," says Hardwick. Get tough guys. Stay focused, have fun, and win!

Does anyone want to volunteer to be a stat keeper? I'd love to include stats such as yardage, tackles, etc. to these posts.

St. Andrew's v Canton Academy, 0-0

Defense ruled the field as both teams had some difficulties getting the ball moving Thursday night at Canton Academy. There were some fantastic plays made by our guys as we continue to push forward in our season. The experience is coming, and players are definitely stepping up in their roles. Monday night is our first home game, and I'm anxious to see the effect playing at home will have on these fine young men.

Additional Game Scheduled

From Coach Hardwick:

Mark you calendar for October 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. We have the opportunity to participate in a special event. That day is homecoming for the Mississippi School for the Deaf. We will play their elementary team at ten and the MSD High School takes on the MSD of Georgia at two p.m. I’ve been told it will be a carnival-like atmosphere that day. This is a special opportunity for the St. Andrew’s community to be a part of this great day.

St. Andrew's v First Pres Blue, 0-13

It was a tough game full of rain, mud, and delays due to lightning, but there seemed to be some good, tough lessons learned as well. I think with this week's schedule of practice the guys will get the jitters out and make something happen. You can't win every game, and true courage and sportsmanship is shown by how you bounce back from a loss. Play hard Saints, and you'll never go wrong!

I didn't get to shoot as much as I wanted due to the rain, but I did get a few shots. Click here to view the gallery.

A Note For Parents:

If you would like to upload photos, videos, or anything else to the blog, email me at tom.beck@mac.com to let me know. I can give you a password, etc. to blog, or you can send me the information and I'll post it.

Thanks to everyone who's given me feedback. It's my pleasure to help make this happen for these guys!

6th Grade Scrimmage

Coach Hardwick told the guys that this would be their toughest matchup of the entire season, and they worked hard, rising to the occasion. The scrimmage was light, but challenging, and it looks like our team is coming together.

I'd like to thank all the coaches for taking time to work with these young men and keeping them focused at the task at hand.

Photos are at this link.

St. Andrew's Pep Rally

The guys had a lot of fun this afternoon at their first 5th grade pep rally, and were introduced to the Middle School as well. The craziness was definitely set to "ON" this afternoon!
